Conveyor toasters operate much like their name suggests. Bread is place on the leading edge of the conveyor belt (which is made of interlocking metal plates). The bread is moved along under the heating element so that the bread can get properly toasted. Once it passes slowly through the toaster, the toast then falls down a metal slide to the bottom of the toaster. This is where the toast is then retrieved, placed on a plate and served to hungry customers.
